Library distribution on Pronoun

You can use Pronoun to make your book available to libraries—just add OverDrive and Bibliotheca as distribution channels in the last section of your book’s details.

Whereas Amazon and other retailers allow readers to buy books, OverDrive and Bibliotheca allow libraries to buy books. When a library buys a copy of your book, they’re buying one copy to make available to readers for two years (or 52 checkouts, whichever comes first).

For example, let’s say the Brooklyn Public Library system buys three copies of your book. Now, up to three Brooklyn Public Library system readers can borrow your book at once. Only one reader per library system can borrow a copy at a time.

You can customize your book’s price on OverDrive and Bibliotheca by clicking Set a Library Price in the pricing section of your book’s details. If you leave this field blank, we’ll use the list price you set for retailers. Or, if your book is free, we’ll default to the minimum library price of $0.99.

Authors receive 70% of their book’s library price for library sales, which appear just like retailer sales in our reporting. OverDrive and Bibliotheca sales reflect library purchases of your book, not copies borrowed by readers (although we’re working on sharing this data!).

Please note that distributing your books to OverDrive and Bibliotheca gives libraries the option to purchase your book; it doesn’t automatically make your book available in libraries. You can check out this article for information about recommending your book to libraries.

Pronoun doesn’t distribute erotica to libraries at this time.
