1. Save as a .docx file

If your manuscript is already a .docx file, great! Move to the next step.

If your manuscript is a .doc file, you’ll need to save it as a .docx file. Please use the steps below to save your manuscript as a .docx file (simply changing the files extension to “.docx” wont work).  

How to save as a .docx file on a Windows PC using Word 2010 or above:

  1. Click File on the top left of the screen.
  2. Click Save As. (If youre using Word 2013, youll have to choose a location for the saved file.)
  3. Select Word Document from the Save as Type menu.
  4. Click Save.

How to save as a .docx file on a Windows PC using Word 2007:

  1. Click on the Microsoft Office Button on the top left of the screen.
  2. Click Save As.
  3. Select Word Document from the Save as Type menu.
  4. Click Save.

How to save as a .docx file on a Mac:

  1. Click File > Save As.
  2. From the Format menu, select Word Document (.docx).
  3. Click Save.
